"Invisible Cities": Porto Design Editorial Project
On July 3rd–July 15th, 2017 in Porto, Portugal I studied under the mentorship of internationally renowned designers Andrew Howard, Hamish Muir, Catherine Griffiths, and David Pearson in a summer editorial course.
Myself and 22 other designers from different corners of the world participated in a series of hands-on, experimental type and composition exercises that culminated in two collaborative, independently-bound books, based on Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities.”
Each designer was assigned to a chapter and specific page width, each consisting of five cities. Given the freedom of page height and paper stock/weight, we were challenged to diversify our individual layouts to produce a piece of work that was truly representative of how we each interpreted the text.
