ADCOLOR 2021 Conference Identity
After a year of headlines around racial violence, a global pandemic that ravaged creative industries, and a reckoning on performative activism, ADCOLOR wanted to center its annual awards & conference on collective action. We tapped into the visual language of grassroots movements to inspire our community into action and to pull up for each other. We created a vibrant and accessible look and feel by leaning into classic sign-making materials and techniques. We also tapped into our community, creating a poster series that translated our call-to-action into their respective languages.
Our design system leans into the classic sign making materials and techniques of civil rights movements to create a handmade look and feel for ADCOLOR’s conference and awards. Bold multi-lingual typefaces, precise and action-driven copy, and textures all contribute to a body of work that feels human at its core. At launch, the work was starkly set in black and white and as the events got closer and more promotions were done, we introduced color, culminating in a bold spectrum at the conference itself.
We also commissioned several community artists to make sure all of ADCOLOR’s members were authentically represented in the work.
